Behind a second-place finish in the aggregate race at the 2022 PBR World Finals, Sawmill, Arizona bull rider Cody Jesus leapfrogged to No. 7 in the world.

Jesus rode 6-of-8 bulls for 530 points and finished 9.75 points behind world champion Daylon Swearingen.

The New York bull rider rode six bulls for 539.75 points to earn the average title at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Attempts to reach Jesus went unsuccessful.

At the world finals, Jesus earned a whopping $170,500 and racked up 540 points in the season standing points, and finished the year-end with 772.66 after coming into the world finals ranked No. 26.

Before the world finals, the 23-year-old Diné rode 2-of-3 bulls at the 2022 Pendleton Whiskey Velocity Tour Finals for the average title as he collected $29,250 at the American Bank Center Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 6.

In an interview with the PBR, Jesus admitted that he’s come up short in several events because he got overly excited by spurring his draws too much.

“It took me a while to learn that patience,” Jesus said following his 89-point ride on La Grande in Round 3 on May 15. “I know I can spur every bull, but they cost me so many times. I am now riding in the moment.”

Earlier this week, Jesus was drafted by the Carolina Cowboys as its first pick for the inaugural PBR Team Series Draft.

Jesus, along with Joao Ricardo Vieira, was later traded to the Texas Rattlers that sent Swearingen, the PBR world champ, and Mason Taylor to the Cowboys.

The new league will begin competition in July, with eight founding teams selecting five bull riders on its roster. The six other teams include the Austin Gamblers, Arizona Ridge Riders, Kansas City Outlaws, Missouri Thunder, Nashville Stampede, and Oklahoma Freedoms.
