Crownpoint High rodeo athletes earn bids to compete at nationals

Crownpoint junior Tryan Jodie captured the NMHSRA state steer wrestling title during the finals May 22-24 at the Lea County Fairgrounds in Lovington, N.M. Jodie amassed 155 points in the steer wrestling standings.

Crownpoint High School does not have a rodeo team, but they have a pair of teenagers that are headed to the National High School Finals Rodeo.
After a long season, steer wrestler Tryan Jodie and breakaway roper Amy Murphy earned their qualifications by finishing in the top four standings in their respective events in the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association.

Crownpoint cowgirl Amy Murphy placed third in the year-end standings in the NMHSRA. Murphy tallied 82 points, earning her first qualification to nationals.
In his first year with the association, Jodie won the state crown by amassing 155 points while Murphy placed third with 82 markers.
“I thought it was possible,” Jodie said of winning the state crown in his rookie season as a junior.
For Murphy, she is headed to nationals for the first-time ever as she started with the association’s junior high program. She then high school rodeoed with her aunt and uncle, Tyra and Tydon Tsosie. for two years before they graduated in 2024, as the two earned multiple qualifications to nationals.
