A San Juan College High School senior has earned the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency at the superior level, the highest recognition the Navajo Nation awards to students who demonstrate exceptional fluency in the Diné language.
Amber Bizardie will be honored at the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Assessment Awards Banquet on Friday, April 17, at the Fire Rock Navajo Casino in Gallup. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To qualify, high school seniors must pass a rigorous assessment administered each spring by the Department of Diné Education that tests their ability to speak, read and write in the Diné language.
Bizardie is also finishing her studies with a high school diploma from San Juan College High School and an associate degree in business administration from San Juan College. She has been accepted into the business administration program at the University of New Mexico and the engineering program at New Mexico Tech, with plans to double-major.
