Last weekend, after word that the Navajo Nation might purchase Remington Arms Co. hit the national news, President Jonathan Nez confirmed to the Navajo Times that the $300 million “Remington proposal” was again on the table.
Now two years later Remington is apparently back on the table and the discussion is still happening in secret. The Budget and Finance Committee, during a June 23 special meeting, tabled legislation 0133-20, sponsored by the committee’s chair Jamie Henio and co-sponsored by Speaker Seth Damon, which may have to do with the sale.
Most of us knew Fred Thompson as the booming baritone fronting the popular rez band Ace’s Wild. But there were many other facets to the man: rodeo announcer, lifelong educator, coach, fitness buff, artist, rancher, promoter of Navajo language and culture, devoted husband and father.
